What makes a TV smart – and why choose that particular adjective? It’s simple really: TV manufacturers want to challenge the notion of the TV as the ‘idiot box’. But what exactly is a Smart TV capable of? Does it make sense to blow another hole in your wallet, even though you already have a flat panel TV? LG Smart TV controller LG’s Smart TV controller, also called the Magic Motion remote control is gesture-based and uses a combination of accelerometers and gyro sensors to detect position and movement in a 3D space. Instead of lots of tiny buttons, the remote has just a few basic ones. You only need a wave of the controller and a click to perform many of the tasks, and you’ll never need to take your eyes off the TV either.
2. LG Smart TV Upgrader Those with existing TVs can add some of the Smart TV functionality by buying LG’s Smart TV Upgrader box. It has network connectivity and connects to the TV using HDMI, but it has a regular remote control instead of the fancy Magic Motion gesture-based controller
3. Smart TV camera Using a Skype-certified camera like this, a Smart TV can be used for two way video calling. It can be permanently placed on top of the TV – the unobtrusive design doesn’t detract from the TV watching experience, but it’s there when you need it. TV cameras also usually have built in, high-sensitivity microphones, so that anyone in the room can talk and be heard.
